ATM Relocation CBN Deadline Expires August
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has reiterated its directive to banks which located their Automated Tellers Machines (ATM) at public places to relocate them as soon as possible.
The directive which was handed down yesterday by the apex bank gave August ending as the deadline for the removal of ATM machines from public places such as shopping malls, bookshops, hotels, airports among others.
The CBN noted that the action became necessary as the banks have deviated from the operational guidelines for ATM.
However, some members of the public who spoke to The Tide on the development said that the removal of ATM from such places would slow down businesses.
According to them, the use of ATMs have promoted business in the country, adding that it has also reduced the stress in cashing money from the bank counters.
They noted that the widespread use of the innovation in recent times provided easy access for monetary transactions.
But in his reaction, the Registrar of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Mr Uju Ogubunka said that the ATM services in public places need to be allowed, noting that their removal could be revisited after wide consultation.
