Edo Assembly Considers Dev, Property Agency Bill
A Bill for Law to provide for the establishment of the Edo State Development and Property Agency on Wednesday, passed second reading during plenary on at the Edo House of Assembly.
Leading the debate on the bill, the majority leader, Roland Asoro,(APC Orhionmwon South Constituency), said the bill sought to decongest the city centre.
Asoro said the bill, if passed and assented by the governor, would also help to create jobs for the teeming youth and increase the state’s internally generated revenue.
“Any plan to decongest Benin and build housing estates is a welcomed development.
“It will help create speedy development and open up new towns and villages,” he said.
He urged other members to support the passage of the bill in the of Edo people.
Mr Kingsley Ugabi, (APC Etsako East Constituency), said the bill would ensure that establishment of filling stations, markets, schools, motor parks among others were properly planned.
According to him, Chris Okaeben, (APC Oredo West Constituency), the bill would cure the menace of mismanagement of government assets.
“The state is long overdue for new housing estates, civil servants who cannot afford to build houses can take advantage of housing estates,” Okaeben said.
Other members of the House also spoke in favour of the bill.
The Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, thereafter, directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Ighe Otabor, to give the bill to the relevant committee for further legislative activities.
