DANA Airline Reassures Public Of Safety, Reliability
Following the conclusion of investigation by accident investigation team on the incident that occurred at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa recently, where a Dana flight skidded off the runway, the authorities of the airline have reassured the general public and the air passengers in particular of safety and reliability.
The airline has also thanked the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) for releasing the preliminary report on the Port Harcourt runway incident involving one of their aircraft on the 23rd of February this year.
A statement released to The Tide from the manager, Media and Communication of Dana Airline, Mr. Kingsley Ezenwa on Tuesday, said that the report confirmed that the Air Traffic Control, which is an arm of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), saddled with the responsibility of issuing instructions that the pilots are required to obey, had cleared the pilot-in-command to land.
“Considering the safety measures that we have put in place and our huge investments in training and retraining of our crew and pilots, we decided not to join issues, but to rather wait on the report of the AIB, the authentic body responsible for such investigation.
“In 2013, The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and its foreign partners the Flight Safety Group, carried out an audit on our operations and in 2016, as a result of our commitment to global safety standards, we applied to become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), went through their audit and subsequently became a member of the body in 2016″, Ezenwa said.
The head of media and communication of the airline described the pilot of the said aircraft as a happily married man and a proud father of three beautiful children.
According to him, the pilot has over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry and is one of the very best in his profession, very meticulous in his duties and was poached from another domestic airline where he also served as the head of safety and quality standard.
The statement further affirmed that the expansion programme is still very much on course and thanked the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who has proven himself as a technocrat and for keeping faith with them while the incident was under investigation.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
