Scripture Union Holds Maiden Reunion Round Table
The first ever reunion round table of Scripture Union, Ikot Ekpene area was held over the weekend to create a platform for the younger generation to familiarise with the older generation of the union.
This event which took place at the Area headquarters was attended by the founding members, including Apostle (Prof.) Udosen of University of Uyo and Sister Comfort Essien who was presented with an award for her steadfastness.
The event featured the presentation of a book on the history of Scripture Union in Ikot Ekpene titled ‘The Genesis’, scripted by the area coordinator, Brother Bernard Itong who also reviewed the book.
One of those that spoke was Apostle (Prof.) Udosen who described the reunion as first of its kind and commended the leadership of Ikot Ekpene area for showing the light, even as he urged other areas to emulate Ikot Ekpene area.
He noted that henceforth the reunion would be a yearly event so as to keep the light burning and create opportunity to guide the young ones in the knowledge of God.
On the insecurity bedevilling the nation, he opined that the only solution lies in the fear of God, advising Nigerians to go back to the basics which according to him is Christianity.
Also speaking, Prof. Selina Ekpo, lauded the effort of the author of the book on how scripture union came into being in Ikot Ekpene, but pointed out that since the year and names of the founding members were not included in the write- up the author did not do enough research before writing the book.
For purposes of correction, she stated that Scripture Union in Ikot Ekpene started in August 1973 at Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikot Obong Edong, Ikot Ekpene.
