Airport Manager Laments High Electricity Expenses
The Manager of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, Gambo Abubakar Aboki, has lamented the high expenses the airport incures on provision of electricity.
He said that power supply at the airport has been a major challenge, which has usually drawn significant part of the airport’s finances.
Aboki, who made this known in an interview with newsmen at the Kano airport, explained that his deployment to the airport coincided with the time when the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), implemented an upward review of electricity tariff in its area of operation.
He said that the airport management was able to ensure uninterrupted power supply, by making sure that they maintain good working relation with the KEDCO, who make sure that all major electricity faults at the airport are timely addressed.
The manager also explained that he made sure that generators were in good and serviceable condition at all times, adding that electric power is very vital to flight operations at the airport, especially at nights.
“These achievements were only possible through a good working relationship with staff, airlines and other stakeholders, and I commend the headquarters for their intervention and various low power consumption initiatives that we introduced.
“We were able to restore approach lighting of Runway 24 to 100 per cent serviceability to the admiration of pilots using the runway at night time”, he said.
Aboki, however, urged staff of FAAN to be more focused and put the interest of the Organisation at heart, as well as be loyal to the authority as well as shun any form of illicit activities.
