Wike Bags Muslim Peace Star Ambassador Award
The Rivers State Government says it will continue to partner with various civil society organisations in the country to build a strong and better state for every one to live in irrespective of their nationality.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Civil Society Organisation’s Hon Andrew Nwanjoku said this while receiving the Peace Star Ambassador Award for Sustainable Peace and Women Empowerment conferred on the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike by the women wing of the state Council for Islamic Affairs in his office over the weekend.
Hon Nwanjoku described the state governor as a detribalized Nigerian who does not discriminate, adding that the governor’s visit to the Sultan of Sokoto during the just-concluded Muslim festival was an indication of his administrative openness to all Nigerians irrespective of their religious and cultural affiliation.
The Special Adviser opined that it was the love and respect the governor has for women that he appointed various women in positions of trust in his administration.
“The governor is gender sensitive that is why he appointed some women into his administration. His love for women made him to choose a woman as his deputy which is first in the history of the state”, he stated.
Hon Nwanjoku lauded the Islamic group for recognizing the developmental achievements of the present administration in the state and assured of government’s support to their organization.
Earlier in her address while presenting the award, the leader of the group, Mrs Khadeejah Pepple said the award was bestowed on the state governor in recognition and appreciation of his choice of a woman as a deputy governor, thereby being the first Deputy Governor in the South-South region.
Mrs Pepple also said the even distribution of projects across the three senatorial districts as well as tackling of insecurity and appointment of women to head sensitive positions in the state was the yardstick for the award.
The group used the opportunity to thank the state governor for appointing a Muslim as his Special Adviser on NDDC outside the traditional Muslims Prigrim Welfare Board and described it as the first of its kind in the state.
