UPTH To Partner NGO On Maternal Mortality Eradication

Authorities of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) say they will partner with the Centre for Women Health and Adolescent Development (CWHAD), a non-governmental organisation to ensure the eradication of maternal mortality in Rivers State.
The Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Professor Aaron C. Ojule disclosed this while speaking as special guest of honour at the launching of the CWHAD Mothers’ Delivery Kit in Port Harcourt, recently.
Professor Ojule explained that after proper consultations on and examination of the delivery kit made available by the CWHAD for pregnant women’s use after delivery, the management of the UPTH decided to use kit which is sold at affordable price.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr Agiriye Harry represented by the Director, Medical Services, Dr Nyanawo Ekanem noted that the board would be a major stakeholder in the project of curbing maternal mortality as being advocated by the CWHAD and assured that the kits would be used in the state, especially the rural communities.
In her speech, the Chief Medical Director, Rivers State Hospital Management Board, Dr Dorothy Okoh applauded the founder and organizser of the project, Mrs Helen Odega for her initiative and focus, stressing the need to take the advocacy to all level of the state.
Earlier, the Executive Director/Secretary, Board of Trustees of the CWHAD, Mrs Helen Odega had said that the organisation was established in 2012 to promote human capacity building, promote women’s health and mentor adolescents, research and service delivery in sexual and reproductive health.
She disclosed that the centre was open to any organisation, group of people, individuals and companies for partnership to curb maternal mortality among pregnant women, pointing out that mothers’ delivery kit had been approved by the UPTH.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
