RSG To Press Fresh Charges On LIoyd
Former Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Chidi LIoyd is to face fresh prosecution, as the State Government has vowed to renew charges of attempted murder as the former lawmaker.
The plan to press fresh charges on LIoyd came as the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike swore-in the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Emmanuel Aguma, as Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), at the weekend in Government House.
While congratulating Aguma on his appointment, Chief Wike said the matter against LIoyd which had been pending in court had to fully legally pursued to be get justice for the family of Michael Chinda who was allegedly hit with the House mace by LIoyd during an alteration on the floor of the House in 2014.
Wike said LIoyd must face the full wrath of the law saying “nobody is above the law. We must pursue those two matters for the interest of the state and ensure the family gets justice”.
In the same vein, he directed that the former Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree be also prosecuted over a murder case against a citizen during the re-run in elections in 2015.
Recall that LIoyd hit Hon Oke-Chinda, representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II in the State House of Assembly with the mace during an argument on the floor of the House.
The action of the former House leader had attracted wide public condemnation, as video of the incidence went viral on the internet and social media.
Though LIoyd was sued by Chinda family following injuries sustained by the lawmaker as a result of the incident, the former House Leader was released shortly after and the matter died down.
But Governor Wike said, it would be unfair to let such matter die down, noting that the State Government wants justice for the family.
He said the matter will serve as deterrent to others who would want to engage in similar act in the future.
