RSG Demolishes More Illegal Structures In PH
In a continued resolve by the Rivers State Government to restore Port Harcourt to its Garden City status, more illegal structures have been demolished at the Railway/Flyover axis of the Rumuwoji, (Mile I) market.
Addressing newsmen at the scene of the demolition, the State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Barrister Chinyere Igwe, restated government’s recommitment to restoring Port Harcourt to its Garden City status.
Igwe noted that the State governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, believe in the rule of law and vowed to pursue it to the letter.
The commissioner stressed that the Wike-led administration would bring the full weight of the law on individuals and or groups that infringe on urban laws in the state.
In a related development, the Swift Operation Squad of Rivers State Police has arrested nine persons in connection with the construction of an illegal market at the Railway/Flyover axis of the Rumuwoji Mile I, Market, Port Harcourt.
A statement by the Police, made available to The Tide, said the arrested persons conspired among themselves to conduct acts likely to cause a breach of public peace.
According to the statement, the nine-persons constructed a market in an unauthorised place against the directive of the Rivers State Government on street trading, adding that they would be prosecuted accordingly.
