Ikwerre Monarchs Woo Residents On PVC
The Supreme Council of Ikwerre Government Recognised Traditional Rulers, have called on all adults residing in all Ikwerre communties to ensure that they register and own the permanent voter card (PVC), by the Independent Electoral Commission ( (INEC) as to enable them exercise their franchise whenever the need arises.
They said the call became imperative as it was part of the body’s moves to support the growth of democracy as a responsible organisation.
The group at a meeting hosted by Eze Oha Okporo Okani Eli Okwurusi Kingdom, HRH, Eze Morgan N. Amadi last weekend, noted that since voting was a civic responsibility of any citizen, it would be proper for anyone residing in any community of the four local government areas that made up the Ikwerre land, to own a PVC.
The delibration which was anchored by its chairman, HM Eze Blessing Wagor (Wagidi XL) , Nye Nwe Ali Isiopko Ancient Kingdom, also pointed out that the PVC ownership would among other things, enable the community to know its voting strenght for proper accountability.
The four Ikwerre LGAs as The Tide was told, include, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor, Emohua and Port Harcourt City.
They showered praises on the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike over his insistence to turn the state to a new city, adding that the title “Mr Project” to the governor by the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo was on merit due to the visible ongoing and completed projects in the state.
The Ikwerre traditonal rulers, also pointed out that both the Golden Jubilee and two years in office celebration by the governor, spoke volumes of the governor’s successfulings, leadership and that it was in order.
Furthermore, they recognised the roles of the founding fathers of the state and their doggedness towards bringing it to limelight, and maintained that without such roles, the state would have remained backward till date.
The group. The Tide learnt is planning to host a grand/ reception for Gov Wike as an illustrous son of Ikwerre.
Though the date has not been made public yet, but there are indications that it may not exceed this year.
