Monetisation: ASCSN Pledges Support For Coalition Of Unions
Mr Ayo Olorunfemi, Sectional Head of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja pledged his support for the decision of the Coalition of Trade Unions to embark on strike.
The unions had resolved to embark on strike over the inability of the Federal Government to pay the balance of monetisation arrears.
Olorunfemi told newsmen that the association would give necessary support to the unions to ensure that the Federal Government paid the remaining 50 per cent of the monitisation entitlements.
The coalition of unions, including MHWUN, AUPCTRE, NUJ, RATTAWU, AAEUN, SSANU, NANNM, NUPTE on Tuesday met and gave a two weeks’ ultimatum for government to pay the balance of the monitisation entitlements to workers.
“The issue of monetisation has been on for the past six years and six years after monetisation, we are still talking about monetisation arrears here and there.”
“We thought that all the challenges of monetisation should have been put behind us but now we realised that some organisations are sitting on the money.”
“I think that trade unions that are mostly involved should just give us the green light and all of us will join in the forthcoming strike.”
“We have also begun to mobilise our members in structures like NYSC, FCDA that have not been paid their full monetisation arrears,” he added.
Olorunfemi said, “we are very worried the way these organisations are dealing with this issue of monetisation and they seem to be looking at themselves as a “sergeant major and overall boss.
“No, it is not going to continue, and if they don’t want a complete breakdown of industrial relations and harmony in these organisations, they should better answer the call because it is going to be total.
“We are going to give trade unions all the necessary support in those areas,’’ he said.
