Robbers Kill Woman, Police Escort In PH
A four-man armed robbery gang has shot dead a woman and her police escort along Rumuola Road by the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt.
Eyewitness account told The Tide that the robbers trailed the woman from one of the banks in the area where she had gone to withdraw money.
According to the account, the robbers besides killing the woman and her escort also made away with her money, while her driver suffered injuries.
Residents of the area told The Tide that the robbers shot sporadically to scare people away before shooting their victim.
Some students of the College of Arts and Science told The Tide that the situation caused a stampede in their campus as most of them ran for their safety and urged the government to beef-up security in the area.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the woman and the police escort have been deposited at the mortuary while the driver is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Police command has waded into the matter, as investigations are said to be on top gear to arrest the hoodlums
