Okrika Launches Book On King Ibanichuka, Dec 23
A book on the life and time
of King Ibanichuka (Ado V1), the last sovereign King of Okrika is to be launched on Friday, 23rd of December, 2016.
The launching is part of events lined up for the celebration of the life and time of the monarch, Amanyanabo of Okrika from 1816 to 1896.
Briefing newsmen on activities lined up for the celebration, Wednesday in Okrika, the Head of Ibanichuka-Ado Royal House of Okrika, Chief Emmanuel A.L. Ibanichuka, said that the book launch, will be followed by the unveiling of the monument of the late Okrika monarch on Saturday, 24th December, 2016 and a banquet at Okrika National School Field.
“Today marks the beginning of series of events lined up for the celebration. Highlights shall include the launch of the book: King Ibanichuka – The last of Okrika’s sovereign Rulers,” he said.
Ibanichuka described the late monarch as one of the greatest Kings of the Niger Delta, who protected jealously, the territorial integrity of Okrika and Ijaw nations.
“He jealously guarded the territorial integrity and political independence of Okrika by signing the treaty of protection on May 7, 1888, with the British Government, represented by Harry Johnston, where he was the only King that clearly defined the territorial boundary of Okrika.
“He was a firm believer in commerce, interested in boosting economic adventures of his people”, he said.
He also said that the late monarch promoted education in Okrika Kingdom by joining in the establishment of Ogugumanga School in Bonny as a joint venture.
