Man Jailed 12 Months Over N140,000 Fraud
An Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin has sentenced one Musa Baba, 33, to one-year imprisonment for defrauding one Moses Acheme of N140, 000.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.C. Ojobo, sentenced Baba, to one-year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a two-count-charge bordering on fraud.
Ojobo held that the convict was sentenced to six months on each of the count but, however, gave him an option of a N100, 000 fine.
She said the sentence should run concurrently.
Earlier, the prosecutor, A.O. Enababor, told the Court that the accused committed the crime between August 18 and 31, 2015.
Enababor said that the accused impersonated a Nigerian Army officer and signed an army guarantor form with the intent to defraud the complainant.
He said the accused unlawfully obtained the sum of N140, 000 from the complainant that he would help him secure employment in the Nigerian Army.
The offence contravened sections 108 and 419 of the Criminal Code.
