Amnesty Programme Succeeded With Monarchs’ Support
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has stated that the State Amnesty Programme succeeded because of the overwhelming support of the state traditional rulers.
Speaking during the marriage between Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, and Queen Prudence Dandeson Jaja at Opobo last Saturday, the governor noted that the cooperation of the traditional rulers helped to get the buy-in of former militants and former cultists.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Engineer Chukwuemeka Woke, noted that the Rivers State Government will continue to partner with the traditional rulers to deliver pro-people policies and programmes.
“If not for the efforts of the traditional institution, the amnesty programme would not have been successful. We are happy with the positive role of the traditional rulers.
“With the relative peace that followed the Amnesty Programme, investors are now returning to the state and the people are benefitting from the economic growth,” he added.
The governor described the Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Council, and Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, as a man of integrity, who has dutifully served Rivers State.
The governor assured the people of Opobo that his administration will complete the abandoned Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro-Unity road before the end of his first term.
He added that the administration will also rehabilitate the General Hospital in Opobo to give the people of the area access to quality healthcare.
The governor noted that God has shown mercy to his administration because it has the overwhelming support of the people.
