Activist Wants FAAN To Eradicate Touting At PH Airport
A social activist, Chris Ichendu, has called on the management of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa to rise up to the challenge in ensuring that touting at the airport is brought under control.
He said that the growing rate of touting at the airport, if not checked, would further reduce the image of Port Harcourt Airport, which has already depreciated in the eye of international aviation authorities.
Ichendu, a business executive who disclosed this in an interaction with The Tide at the Port Harcourt airport noted that a lot of people go about at the airport without an official identity or accreditation of the FAAN management on what they do.
According to him, this set of people go about to claim they are brokers, but are just there to hussle and in the process extort unsuspecting travellers.
He described airport as a major point of international relations, and urged the management to work hard to create the best impression to airport users.
“Nigeria is a fertile ground for economic growth and investment, and all aviation workers need to work hard to create the right impression at all airports across the country”, Ichendu remarked.
He also urged the FAAN management to provide more Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the airports so as to enhance security surveillance as well as checkmate movement of people who are not accredited by FAAN to do business or front for people at the airport.
The activist, however, applauded the recent approval of fund by the Federal government for the infrastructural development of airports, and urged for a speedy disbursement of the funds to execute projects at the Port Harcourt Airport.
