NPA Tasks Staff On Efficient Port Services
The Chairman, Board of
Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr Emmanuel Adesoye, has urged members of staff to adhere to occupational, health and safety measures for efficient port services.
According to the General Manager, Public Affairs of NPA, Chief Micheal Ajayi, Adesoye made the plea during a facility tour of Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, Lagos, with other board members and top management staff of NPA.
He said that there is need for port efficiency in line with international best practices.
The chairman said that the board would ensure that the mission of the organisation “which is to deliver efficient port services in a safe, secure and customer-friendly environment is brought to bear at all times during operations at the ports’’.
“This is in order to safeguard lives and property within the port community and beyond,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Adesoye as saying.
He said “This would attract foreign investors and further lead to generation of revenue.’’
The NPA Chairman was optimistic that the management would ensure that the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal “is put into more effective use in view of the vast investment opportunities therein’’.
Adesoye described the Ikorodu Terminal as a “Gold mine which we must find a way to put into good use’’.
He said that the management planned to encourage export trade through the terminal, especially agricultural produce with a view to making the location a notable maritime hub in the sub-region.
The NPA Chairman also said that the management would enhance industrialisation, which would in turn yield more dividends at this critical time.
“Industrialisation would also create employment for our people,’’ Adesoye said.
He urged all stakeholders in the maritime sub-sector to have a common goal toward making the Nigerian port industry the choice destination.
Adesoye said that this would be achieved through harmonisation of strategies in tandem with government desires.
