Red Cross Trains 200 On First Aid
The Nigerian Red Cross
Society, says it has trained over 200 persons from various communities in Rivers State on First Aid.
The State Chairman of the Society, Mr. Blessing Otoru Ikemejinma disclosed this while declaring open the 9th Annual, First Aid Training Camp of the Society at County Grammar School Ikwerre/Etche.
He said that the annual camp training exercise was aimed at equipping its members with relevant skills with a view to responding to the needs of the people during crisis.
The branch chairman said that this year’s camping had become necessary inview of the increasing level of violence in the Society.
He stressed the need for participants to take the rules of the camp seriously so as to prepare them for the challenges of meeting the needs of the Society.
The branch chairman also commended the International Redcross Society (IRS) for ensuring that members of the branch participated in the activities of other state branches of the society.
Also speaking, the Camp Coordinator, Miss Matilda Briggs described the theme of this year’s training camp: “First Aid for All, Anywhere Anytime In A Volatile Environment” as apt following the increase in crime level.
“This theme is remarkable at this time when crimes of various types are on the increase in every place and can occur at anytime.
“This calls for urgent attention to develop the knowledge and skills of volunteers to prepare them for more effective and responsible delivery of emergency response services to victims as the need arises”, she said.
She urged the participants to take the training seriously so as to make their contribution in alleviating the sufferings of the vulnerable in the society.
