CRSG Set To Assist Entrepreneurs
The Cross River State
Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has reiterated the commitment of the state government to support entrepreneurs in the state in its policies and programmes.
Ayade gave the assurance while declaring open the third annual Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise MSME conference and exhibition at the CBN south-south Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Calabar.
The governor, represented by his special adviser on Entreprenurship Development, Dr. Asu Shendam Dascry, described the theme of the conference, “Made in Nigeria, building world class brands” as apt, saying that Nigeria’s economic challenge is worrisome.
Ayade noted that government at all levels is diversifying to strengthen the economy, adding that his administration is poised to empower its citizens especially the youths through the signature projects to reduce over dependence on foreign products.
Special guest at the occasion and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. John Gaul Lebo, stressed the need for Nigeria to spend time to build the economic democracy of the country.
Lebo advised youths not to see politics as the best and only source of livelihood but to rather focus on entrepreneurship development as well.
The programme director of South-South EDC Calabar, Mr. Gbenga Owolabi in a welcome address said there is a lull in the global economy and the conference was aimed at making recommendations on the way forward.
The event featured paper presentation by eminent resource persons as well as questions and answer session.
In another development, about 3000 persons from four local government areas have benefitted from a free medical programme organized by Wilmar Plantations for its host communities in Cross River.
Bulk of the beneficiaries of the programme facilitated by Akamkpa local government council were from its about 23 host communities in Akamkpa, Biase, Odukpani and Akpabuyo local government areas.
The free medical services include eye screening, ultra sound scan, laboratory investigations, blood pressure examination and donation of free reading glasses among others.
Declaring the exercise open, the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Mr. Joseph Hotup, commended Wilmar and Tulsi Chanrai Foundation for their partnership with the four local government councils as part of their corporate social responsibility to alleviate the health burden of the people.
