Oba Vows To Sustain Peace In Onelga
The Oba of Ogbaland,
Oba Chukumela Nnam-Obi has pledged to sustain the existing peace in Ogba/Egbema /Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) with the collective efforts of all the stakeholders, and lovers of peace in the area.
Nnam-Obi made this pledge while receiving the most peaceful Local Government Area Award by Election observers Groups on the recently conducted re-run legislative elections in Rivers State at his palace at Omoku, headquarters of the Local Government Area recently.
The monarch said with all hands on deck, the tempo would be sustained for the growth and development of the Local Government Area, and commended the people for their maturity and understanding that elections would come and go but the interest of the communities must be paramount.
He expressed appreciation for the award and noted that the recognition of ONELGA as the most peaceful Local Government in Rivers State in the re-run legislative elections would send a positive message to all and sundry that peace had returned to the LGA.
The traditional ruler thanked the Election observers Groups for the award saying that it was one of the manifestations of his dream before the march 19, 2016 elections.
Nnam-Obi used the occasion to further call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release the results of the remaining Local Government Ares where elections were concluded, stressing that they should go by the result sheets that had been collated at the polling units and declare the results accordingly. In his remarks, the caretaker committee chairman of ONELGA, Isaac Umejuru thanked God and the entire people for the peaceful elections.
Earlier, the co-ordinator of National Association of State Assembly legislators and leader of the election observers groups, Amb. Sunny Elekwa said that the Local government stood out among other LGAs by ensuring that the elections were devoid of violence and irregularities and thanked all the stakeholders for their efforts.
