Re-Run Polls: NGO Harps On Security
Ahead of the re-run
election of March 19,2016, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Peace and Development Organisation of Nigeria, has called for immediate intervention in the security situation in some parts of Rivers State to avoid violence and blood bath.
President of the organisation, Prophet Omonna Amachree, made the call in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently.
According to him, the present security situation in the state especially in Omoku, and its environs was serious threat to the forthcoming rerun election.
Prophet Amachree, who commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his support to security agencies urged state police command to re-double its efforts in tackling insecurity in the state.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level-playing field for all the candidates in the rerun election, stressing that it should conduct transparent and credible elections in the state.
Prophet Amachree decried the mindless killings in the state and advised politicians to join hands to tackle the issue of insecurity rather than trading accusations.
