RSG Tasks Corps Members On Job Creation
The Rivers State Government has urged youth corps members to assist in the fight against unemployment by applying acquired skills in the service of society and becoming self reliant.
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike made the call during the passing out parade of Batch ‘C’ corp members at the Issac Boro Park, Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Governor Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani, commended the outgoing corpers over their immense contribution to national development.
The Governor noted that the Free Health Care Services of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) under the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers had impacted positively on the lives of the rural dwellers and the society in general.
The Governor however lauded the management of the NYSC in solidifying lasting bond among youths for systematic building of a virile nation.
He also called on youth corpers to remain committed to the objectives of the NYSC especially in “the implementation of MDGs programme, mass literacy programme, HIV/AID campaign, legal aids and charity”.
In her remark, the Rivers Cordinator of the NYSC, Nwatarali N. Dorothy, said the NYSC was committed to its vision of preparing the corpers to be patriotic, self reliant and fully mobilized for the overall service of the nation.
The NYSC Cordinator, noted that the clamour for the scrapping of the NYSC was uncalled for as the scheme remain the only platform of national integration in the country.
A total of 4,867 corp members passed out while four outstanding youth corpers bagged award of excellence. Some of the youth corpers who spoke with The Tide said the service years encouraged them on how to be creative and productive and assured that the basic skills acquired would be judiciously applied.
