ACHAN President Tasks Members On Ethics
The National President,
Airport Car Hire Association of Nigeria (ACHAN), Chief Stanley Dike, has cautioned members of the association to operate in accordance with the ethical conduct and in line with the constitution of the body.
Chief Dike, who stated this Tuesday, while inaugurating the new executives of the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) branch of ACHAN, urged them to avoid bitterness, rancor and acrimony.
He commended members on the peaceful conduct of the election and called for cooperation among the leaders that will ultimately transcend to the members, adding that the national body of the association was determined to streamline their operations in the 25 airports in the country.
The chairman of the Election Organising Committee, Mr Tony Wilson said the positions were zoned according to the zonal platforms recognized by the constitution, stressing that the process was transparent, free, fair and credible as the outcome of the election was accepted by all.
In his remark, one of the patrons of ACHAN, Chief Festus Onukwufor, lauded the national president and the members for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the elections, adding that their presence has added value to the event and charged the new executive to work as a team.
The branch chairman of ACHAN, Mr Clifford Olumati, said the position of chairman was zoned to Rivers and Bayelsa States, but several meetings to agree on a consensus candidate were fruitless, hence the keen contest.
Olumati therefore said the elections were over and declared no victor, no vanquished and promised to carry everybody along in the scheme of things while soliciting the support of members.
The chairman, who thanked members for the confidence reposed on him, assured that his first priority would be to sanitise the operations of the car hire to allow every one have his fair share.
On the suspension of a member who dragged the association to court, Mr Olumati said his administration would lift the suspension if he withdrew the matter for proper reintegration.
Members of the executive who were equally issued with certificates of return include Mr Fortune Nwosu, vice chairman. The position of secretary was won by Mr Emmanuel Chijioke, assistant secretary, Mr Khabiri Muri, treasurer, Mr Rabiu Abiso.
Others are financial secretary, Maxwell Nmadu, publicity secretary, Christopher Chinwike, Chief Provost, Hyacinth Mozie, Provost Godknows Olocha and Assistant Provost, Godwin Amadi.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
