Surveyor-General Lauds Women In Surveying
The Cross River state Surveyor-General, Mr. Eyo O. Oku, has lauded the Chapter of Women in Surveying (WIS) and expressed his willingness to partner with them to achieve their set goals and objectives.
Mr. Oku stated this when the State Coordinator of Women in Surveying (WIS) Surv. Mrs. Ekama Elemi, her Executives and other women surveyors in the State had audience with him and his Management Staff in his office recently in Calabar.
He charged them to eschew fighting; while advising them to portray the profession in good light and as much as possible, make themselves quite significant and relevant in the public.
Mr. Oku urged the Women Surveyors to discharge their duties in line with modern survey office of the 21st century, as well as condition themselves to changing the views of the people by providing them with satisfactory services.
The Surveyor-General, used the occasion to enumerate the achievements of his office in 2014 to include; provision of specialized computer systems to staff, ICT networking, scanners and plotters amongst others.
In another development, the State Co-ordinator, Women in Surveying (WIS), congratulated the Surveyor-General, on his appointment and commended him for being gender sensitive and friendly in the profession.
Mrs. Elemi said the aims and objectives of Women in Surveying included; awarding scholarship to female students, creating awareness among students in post primary schools and sensitisation of students on specialised fields in surveying, in addition to the welfare of members.
She said the Women’s multiple roles as career women, professionals, wives and home managers could not distract them from delivering optimum and satisfactory services at their various places of work as public servants or private practitioners.
The State Co-ordinator of WIS, expressed appreciation to the Surveyor-General, for the warm reception accorded the National Co-ordinator of the Association, Surv. Tina Anobili, when she visited him in his office recently in Calabar.
Others who spoke during the courtesy call were: The Director of Administration, Mrs. Bernadette Ndifon, who commended the high spirit and input of Women Surveyors in the office of the Surveyor-General of Cross River State (OSG-CR), while the Secretary, State Chapter of Women in Surveying, Mrs. Glory Soyombo, gave the vote of thanks.
