NOA Tasks Parties On Voters’ Education
Leaders of political
parties have been urged to educate their members on how to vote in order to avoid void votes in the coming elections.
The State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Oliver Wolugbom gave the charge during a one-day training workshop for officials of the agency organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Port Harcourt.
He said the call became imperative, because of the votes that were declared void in the 2011 election, due to inappropriate thum-printing.
Wolugbom also urged politicians to be careful of their utterances about their opponents, adding that they should not make inflammatory statements in order not to over-heat the polity.
According to him, the impression given to Nigerians is that the level of violence in the coming election will be very high, and that Nigeria cannot make it after their election. Therefore, it is in the hands of the people to make it violence-free elections”.
Also speaking, the Director of Voters’ Education and Publicity, Mr. Godfrey Asiki said that the distribution of PVCs was on-going and urged eligible voters to get their PVCs from INEC.
