First Deepwater Ready To Win Basketball League
Lateef Erinfolami, Coach, First Deepwater Basketball Club of Lagos, says the team is set to dethrone the defending champions of the Zenith Bank Female Basketball League, First Bank Basketball Club.
First Deepwater on Wednesday defeated First Bank 63-61 in the first phase of the 2010 league in Kano.
First Deepwater, admitted to the league late in 2008, had defeated the First Bank fondly called Elephant Girls at the finals of the 2009 league season in Lagos.
Erinfolami in a telephone interview with our source said that “I think it’s high time the league became very competitive and interesting.
“It will help in attracting more fans to the sport every season,”.
According to him, the era of predicting the winner of the league every season is fading gradually.
“I am happy with the result of our match with First Bank because the next phase of the league will be highly competitive.
“We need just one more victory over them to become champions,” he said.
Erinfolami said that since the phase began, some of the so called smaller clubs have been pulling surprises with there performances.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Secretary, Francis Gbiri, said that the on-going first phase of the league was entertaining.
Gbiri said that he was happy with the way the league was going as there had been no problem whatsoever.
