The Rivers Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition (REYLCO), has called on oil companies operating in the state to rise up to the occasion and ensure that they obey the stipulations of the Local Content Act.
A communiqué issued at the end of a two-day National Youth Confreence hosted by the Bonny Youth Federation at the Ibani Hall, in Bonny Local Government Area, and signed by the coordinator, REYLCO, Mr. Livingstone Nembere, and 11 others, charged the oil companies to live up to their social Corporate Responsibilities.
The statement which was made available to newsmen Saturday in Port Harcourt, said such development, if followed, would bring even development to oil host communities in the state.
They regretted that areas like Bonny, still do not wear the look of a modern Town, even with the presence of multinationals in the area.
They argued that areas like Bonny are meant to wear an international look, saying that it has contributed immensely to the country’s economic development.
Furthermore, it revealed that the people of Bonny still suffer youth unemployment, adding that it has so far, brought a level of frustration to the kingdom.
They have also called on the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and other sister agencies to belt up and ensure that their impact is felt by the people.
The statement, narrated how the oil host communities would have been a believer of activities if the multinationals were interested in rural development, while expressing hope for a new dawn.
It also changed that oil companies to look inwards and address all grey areas in the areas (host communities), ranging from economic development to other areas that have direct bearing on the people.
Meanwhile, they have lauded Nigeria Liquidities Natural Gas (NLNG), SHELL and others as well as the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny. His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple 111, for their respective efforts towards the success of the event.
The Tide gathered that all the 12 signatories out across the 23 local Government Areas of the State, especially those that are hosting oil and gas facilities.
