Students Want IAUE VC Confirmed
As the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, prepares for its 2023-2024 convocation ceremony, some students of the institution have called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Visitor of the school to use the occasion to confirm the appointment of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku, to a substantive Vice Chancellor.
Making the call in an exclusive chat with The Tide, recently, in Port Harcourt, one of the students, Ikechi Amadi, a 300 level student of the institution, said “Prof Onuchuku has done marvellously well towards giving the place a permanent facelift”.
Amadi, who went down memory lane, recalled how the school was lagging behind in academic standards.
According to him, “issues like cultism and other social vices are now far from the learning environment due to Onuchuku and his management team’s efforts.
“Before Onuchuku’s arrival, most things were actually not in their rightfully place. The acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, has done well for the school. Students now enjoy security and peace, unlike before when we live in fear”.
Another student, who only gave her name as Ms Blessing, said the Acting VC fought tirelessly and pushed indecent dressing out of the institution.
Blessing revealed how students were almost going nude before the intervention of the Economist Professor.
She hinted that such feat could only be achieved by someone with target and focus.
“To handle students is not an easy task. For me, the Acting Vice Chancellor is doing well. All the Governor and The Visitor of the school need do, is to confirm his appointment to enable him do more”, she said.
Others who also spoke in support of the move, said the Acting Vice Chancellor deserved such gesture given his landmark achievement in the school.
They also recalled that he provided an open kitchen for them in an attempt to aid them fight the economic quagmire faced by Nigerians, especially students in the campuses.
