PH To Host Largest International Women’s Day
Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State is set to host the largest gathering for women as it gears to host one of the biggest International Day for Women, come Friday, March 8, 2024. This is according to the spokesperson of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, a world class organisation with United Nations ECOSOC status, Ambassador, Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke.
According to the spokesperson, while speaking to newsmen recently in Port Harcourt, between 5,000 and 10,000 persons from Nigeria and diaspora, including the wife of the state Governor, Mrs Valerie Fubara, the World Peace President, Ambassador Per Stafsen of Denmark, the Civil Societies, Non-Governmental Organisations, Faith and Community-based organisations and corporate entities are being expected under the chairmanship of a renowned philanthropist and grassroots advocate for women and gender development, Her Eminence, Ambassador Princess Toyin Kolade.
Speaking further, Ambassador Nkweke said that the wife of the Governor would be expected to address the world on the place of women in nation development and world peace during the event. The International Women’s Day is a day set aside by the United Nations to raise awareness on the importance of women and their contributions towards world peace.
With, ‘Count Her In: Invest In Women, Accelerate Progress’ as this year’s theme, the event, he said, offers a great opportunity to make leaders to know the importance of investing in the female gender, making deliberate effort to empower them.
He said that his organisation would be using the event to support the UN in creating awareness and sensitizing the public on the importance of engaging women in governance towards achieving world peace. “We believe so much in the power of women because if you give woman a house, she gives you a home and if you give woman a country, she gives you a nation”, he stated.
The spokesperson further disclosed that the event would be used to celebrate and honour women who have made a name for themselves and achieved one milestone or the other in Nigeria and beyond. “The world will gather in Port Harcourt to celebrate the virtues of women and recognize those with outstanding achievements, both dead and living personalities, women such as, Prof Ngozi Okonjo-Iwuala, Late Prof Dora Akunyili, Nollywood actresses, the first female judge, outstanding women journalists, entrepreneurs among others”.
