Rivers LG Service Commission Boss Seeks Workers’ Support
The Acting Chairman of Rivers Local Government Service Commission, Mr Goodlife Idoku, has appealed to the members of staff of the commission for their cooperation to enable the commission to realise its mandate.
Idoku, who assumed the position recently, made the appeal on Monday, when he formally met with the commission’s staff members on his assumption of office.
He said that the commission’s mandate included human capital development with the available resources.
He said that the mandate of local government adminsitration was well spelt out by the Constitution as grassroots government.
He regretted that many local governments had performed abysmally low, considering the huge monthly allocation to that tier of government.
He said that Gov. Siminialaye Fubara was concerned about the welfare of the people of the state, especially those living in the rural areas.
Idoku told the workers that his administration would work with open mind to ensure that the commission’s mandate was achieved.
He urged them to support the policies and programmes of the State Government, particularly that of the commission, to improve the poor state of the communities and villages in the state.
“I will ask for your cooperation, I have not come here to witch-hunt anybody, but the right thing must be done for the good of all of us.
“We are all members of the state and I am here to join hands with you to move the state forward.
“Everyone of us has to do their own part so that the lofty plans of the governor would be evidently achieved and seen all over the state, including the LGAs,” Idoku said.
