Islamic Sisters Celebrate Fubara’s S’Court Victory …Host Rivers Commissioner For Women Affairs
The Islamic Sisters Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, has congratulated the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, on his Supreme Court victory last Thursday.
The group celebrated the victory at the Rivers State Central Mosque, Port Harcourt, on Monday with the Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Roseline Apawari Uranta, and other top officials of her ministry in attendance as special guests.
The President of the association, Hajiya Maryam Nasiru Usman, expressed the association’s appreciation to God for the Supreme Court judgment and Governor Fubara for giving Muslims their due recognition, rights and privileges in the scheme of things against the previous convention where they weren’t seen as part of the state.
Hajia Nasiru, who doubles as the state chapter Vice President, Women Wing of the Council for Islamic Affairs, also reassured the Women Affairs Commissioner of the unwavering support of the Muslim women in the state as a reciprocation to the state government’s demonstration of tremendous commitment to the people’s welfare.
On their parts, the Chief Imam of the Mosque Iman Yallo; the Rivers State chapter chairman of the Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Suleiman Akai, and Secretary, Rivers State Chapter of the Council for Islamic Affairs, Aliu Darlington, also thanked Governor Fubara for giving Muslims in the state the necessary recognition.
They described the Supreme Court judgement that affirmed Fubara as Rivers State governor as a blessing to the entire people of the state, regardless of tribe, political affiliation and religion.
They informed the commissioner that a good number of Muslims, clerics and leaders are bonafide indigenes of different ethnic nationalities in the state, hence deserve equal rights and privileges.
They pledged their continuous support for Fubara’s administration because of his non-discriminatory approach to governance.
Responding, Dr. Uranta who said she was pleased to be in a mosque for the first time, extended the governor’s gratitude to Muslims in the State for their support and assured them of ceaseless inclusion, most especially Muslim women.
The Vice President of the Rivers State chapter of the Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nasiru Uhor, who was unavoidably absent, sent his apologies.
