CSO Lauds Fubara Over Free Bus Service

The State Coordinator for Champaign for Transformative Governance (CFTG), Comrade Samuel Chikweri, has lauded the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, over the provision of the free bus scheme in his quest to reduce the hash effect of the petrol subsidy removal on the people.
Chikweri, who made this known at a media chat in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said Fubara has so far matched his words with action, and silenced his critics.
The group, who also operates under the agies of Coalition of Labour and Civil Society Organization, further called on the 23 local government council chairmen of the state to compliment the governor’s gesture and introduce palliative buses at the grassroots level.
He also pointed out that part of the reason for the media briefing was to access the 100 days in office of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and score same.
The CFTG boss disagreed with some groups which had earlier accused Fubara of not having achieved anything to be celebrated, citing the free bus scheme and others as evidence.
“For us, the labour civil society coalition in the state, 100 days in office is not only marked by roads and buildings hurriedly built but also by structures put in place by the government to usher in transformative governance”, he said.
He noted that Fubara has given attention to issues raised by his group during the town hall meetings held across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He maintained that the introduction of the palliative bus has helped the populace move around at zero cost in the state.
“Your Excellency Sir, please introduce more of the palliative buses, it is of great assistance to the people”, he said.
He also explained that his organisation was monitoring the distribution of the palliatives by the committee set up by the state government for to manage the process.
According to him, the aim was to ensure that the palliatives were distributed evenly.
He also felicitated with the Head of Service of Rivers State, Dr. George Nweake, for the ongoing training and retraining of civil servants across the service.
It was learnt that the CFTG is a labour civil society coalition founded in 2021 in Abuja, and powered by the Solidarity Centre West Africa to usher in transformative governance in the sub-region by enhancing accessible and efficient public service delivery, political education and promoting human security.
