According to Sulaiman, the broad objective of the competition was to provide continued education on the legislature and further expand the knowledge of students and youths on history, practice and procedures of the Legislature.
He also noted that the competition will stimulate the interest of the students in politics and make them proactive in matters relating to legislature and democracy.
The Director General further urged the participating students to abide by the rules of the game in the spirit of sportsmanship.
The Principal of GGSS Rumuokwuta, Dr Gladys Iyeumame, while declaring open the event, pleaded with the participating schools to comply with the regulations of the competition, and wished them success.
In his speech, the Deputy Director in the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Mr Charles Gbaranwi, disclosed that the participating schools were selected based on the Senatorial District.
He said the winner of the competition at the state level will move to the Geopolitical Zone, on November 2, 2023 to compete with other schools.
Gbaranwi hinted that the finals will take place at Abuja on November 16, 2023 and urged the students to put in their best during the competition.
He also commended the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof Prince Chinedu Mmom, for his initiative to bring overall development in the educational sector in Rivers State.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to the participating schools.
