RSUBEB Boss Tasks Communities, Stakeholders On Education Dev

The Executive Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBE), Ven Fyneface Akah, has emphasised the importance of stakeholders contributions and support to the development of the educational sector in the State.
Akah reminded the stakeholders of their responsibilities in moving the education sector forward,saying that government will not be able to do all the things that are expected to be in place in schools .
The RSUBEB boss stated this when he received in audience several communities and groups that paid him a courtesy visit at the Board Headquarters in Port Harcourt.,over the weekend.
Akah, who was firm told the various visiting groups that the schools belong to them and most of the schools named after communities and as such needs to be supported as government can not provide everything required or needed.
He urged community leaders to take interest in the organisation of teaching and learning in schools in their domains in order to ensure quality service delivery for the good of their children.
The board chairman, who said the stakeholders engagement has offered both the board and the communities the opportunity of proper interaction that is very intentional also said that the meeting has helped the board to know about the goings on in the schools across the states as well as make appeals to remind them of their responsibilities.
He used the opportunity to thank the state Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara -led government for doing so much towards provision of school infrastructure following his approval of funds to the tune of over N36 billion naira for intervention for Rivers Basic Schools which he described as a sign of commitment by the governor towards ensuring that the system is run with the right infrastructure that is needed seamlessly beyond employment of teachers for the schools.
Highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of letters of appreciation to the RSUBEB boss as well as encomiums showered on him by the communities for working creditably.
Some of the communities and groups that visited the board headquarters were Eneka CDC; Elikpokwu- Odu CDC; Egwi/Okpuala Town Council; Rivers Indigenous Language Teachers Association; and Rivers Parents Teachers Association, among others.

UNIPort Senate Grants Two-Year Amnesty to U2010–U2018 Students

The Senate of the University of Port Harcourt Rivers state has approved a special two-year amnesty for students admitted between the 2010/2011 and 2018/2019 academic sessions who were unable to complete their programmes within the stipulated period.
This was contained in a statement by the university public relations officer,Dr Sammy Kpenu and made available to the tide over the weekend in port Harcourt.
The statement stated that eligible students are expected to submit formal applications addressed to the Vice Chancellor through their respective Heads of Department for review and necessary consideration.
The statement further stated that the approval provides a renewed opportunity for affected students to return, regularize their academic status, and successfully complete their studies.
According to the statement  the amnesty also offers a fresh opportunity to students who had issues related to overstaying or other challenges that forced them to discontinue their programmes, to return and complete their academic pursuits.
The statement however said that the deadline for submission of applications end on 31st May, 2026 and therefore urge the affected students to take full advantage of the window the amnesty provided to realise their academic dreams.

“FPOG Bonny Deepens Learning With Hands-On Expedition to NLNG Nature Park”

Academic expeditions and excursions take learning beyond the classroom, fostering personal growth, cultural understanding, and hands-on engagement with history, science, and nature. For the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, such outings are a strategic tool for bridging theory with practice.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Department of Science Laboratory Technology led students on an academic excursion to the NLNG Nature Park in Bonny. The team was led by the Head of Unit, Elizabeth Jumbo, alongside Ikor Peter, Usman Thaha, and Elekwachi Progress. The trip was designed to connect classroom instruction with real-life experiences.
According to the department, the excursion sought to deepen learning by linking theoretical knowledge with tangible, real-world exposure. The exercise also aimed to enhance student engagement and retention while promoting social-emotional skills such as collaboration and empathy. It further catered to diverse learning styles among the students.
