Association Urges FG To Fix East-West Road
The National Association of Ogoni Media Workers Worldwide (NAOMWW) has called on the Federal Government to immediately see to the fixing of the Eleme/Onne axis of the East-West Road, leading to Ogoniland in Rivers State.
The national leadership of NAOMWW made the call recently when the Chairman, Steering Committee of the association, Comrade Christian Saro Ganale led the executive of the body on a courtesy visit to an Ogoni-born insurance expert, Sir Felix Nwako in his office in Port Harcourt.
Ganale, who is also the South-South National Vice President of the Radio Television Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), decried the deplorable condition of the Eleme/Onne axis of the East-West Road, which is the gateway, not only to Ogoniland, but also to other States in the South-South zone.
The trade unionist lamented the incessant deaths and casualties recorded on this highway as a result of the deplorable condition of the road.
According to him, “Without the Eleme -Onne axis of the East-West Road, there is nothing called the Federal Government of Nigeria”. He emphasised that the Federal Government should immediately address the deplorable condition of the road with dispatch.
In his response, Sir Nwako thanked the association for the honour done him and added his voice in the call on the Federal Government to immediately address the deplorable condition of the Eleme-Onne axis of the East-West Road, which is the heartbeat of the Nigerian economy.
He said the ogonis live in hard pains as a result of the impassable condition of this highway which has denied them the opportunity of visiting their families and loved ones at home.
