Maryam Babangida Women Centre Inducts Maritime Varsity’s Ex-VC
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) has inducted former Vice Chancellor, Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, Prof. Ongoebi Maureen Etebu, into the famous Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.
A statement made available to newsmen by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MBNCWD, Hon. Asabe Villita Bashir, officially informed and congratulated the former Vice Chancellor, who was also a former Commissioner for Special Projects in Bayelsa State, reads in part: “The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD), Abuja, in line with its mandate to stimulate consciousness towards the attainment of higher levels of development for Nigerian women, has since 2004 started an activity of identifying Nigerian women qualified to be role models through set criteria for induction into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.
“The Hall of Fame was specifically set up for Nigerian Women, to pay tribute to their efforts and contributions to National Development.
“The Hall of Fame also provides role models for young girls and the larger society about the unlimited potentials of women, and this helps to project women as active contributors to national development.
“As the Centre prepares to host the 2023 induction of women achievers into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame, I am pleased to inform you that in recognition of your breaking the glass ceiling by being the first female Professor of Mechanical Engineering, you have been duly singled out by the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development to be inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.
“The induction will be a time to honour and celebrate you along with other Female Role Models who have broken the glass ceiling in various professions and endeavours in Nigeria”.
The Tide learnt that the induction ceremony took place on July 19, 2023 at the National Centre for Women Development Premises, Abuja.
