INEC Holds Supplementary Polls In Rivers, Saturday
The management of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rivers State, has announced a new date for the conduct of supplementary elections in the two federal constituencies where the process was paused on February 25, 2023.
The two federal constituencies are Khana/Gokana and Port Harcourt II.
This was made known in a statement with reference, “INEC/RS/PM/387/376”, and dated Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
The statement was signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC in the state, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem.
The LGAs/Registration Areas that will be affected include, Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in Khana Local Government Area, and Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
The polling units where elections will hold are: 04 and 07, comprising 42 PUs in Khana; and 05, 10 to 18 consisting of 377 PUs in Port Harcourt City Council Area in the heart of the state capital.
The statement reads; “The Management of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rivers State wishes to inform all Political Parties and the entire Public that the Supplementary Election for Port Harcourt II and Khana/Gokana Federal Constituencies earlier announced by the Commission will hold this Saturday April 15, 2023 by 8.30am.
“The Commission therefore calls on all registered voters in the affected Registration Areas/Polling Units to come out en-masse on the above-mentioned date to cast their votes and to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and in accordance with laid down Guidelines.
“Please, be assured of our commitment to ensure a successful conclusion of this election”.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
