Activist Tasks RSG On Private Schools’ Building Plan
A Niger Delta Activist, Rev. Sokari Soberekon, has called on the Rivers State Government to demand approved building plans from private schools in the state.
Soberekon, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said this has become necessary to avoid incessant building collapse, which sometimes led to loss of lives and property.
According to him, indescriminate erection of buildings by private school owners without government approval is a threat to lives of children.
“I call on the government to demand building plans from private school owners.
“This is necessary inorder not to further endanger the lives of children and others”, he said.
He said apart from school buildings, other property developers should also be made to produce approved building plans
The elder statesman also called on the government to ensure the distribution of refuse disposal vans to all parts of the state.
He said the gains made so far in sanitation in the State should be consolidated, adding that for some time now Port Harcourt has returned to its Garden City status.
Soberekon also commended Governor Nyesom Wike for the infrastructural development across the state and stressed the need for a programme that will help the elderly, like him.
