Fubara Advocates Respect For People’s Rights As Ogonis Remember Saro-Wiwa
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara has called for recognition of peoples right and respect of human dignity, describing as cruel the killing of the Ogoni human rights activist Kenule Saro-Wiwa and his other compatriots by Abacha military junta 27 years ago.
Fubara, in a solidarity message to the Ogonis to mark the Ken Saro-Wiwa anniversary noted that it remained unfortunate that issues that led to their death still lingers today as the environment continues to suffer untoward degradation.
He, however, charged the Ogonis to remain resolute in exploring peaceful means in ventilating matters of development and survival as he shares in their pains of losing a vibrant activist like Ken Saro-Wiwa.
The gubernatorial candidate enjoined the people to allow the wounds of the past to completely heal as there is greater hope in building a united and stable Rivers State together.
According to him, “the prize of losing a vibrant figure as Ken Saro-Wiwa is a huge one for an ethnic nation, and we must therefore as a people and government continue to explore means of dialogue in resolving issues rather than resort to human carnage.”
