Minister Inaugurates Board Of Leadership Training Centre
Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has inaugurated the Board of the 70-year-old Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre.
This followed the approval for the reconstitution of the board by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement by Mohammed Manga, Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry issued on Saturday in Abuja, said Dare charged the board to enhance patriotism, nationalism and ethical orientation among Nigerians.
He said that their task was also to use the centre in imparting national consciousness and understanding among Nigerians.
Dare advised them to learn from the history of recent happenings that led to the dissolution of the last board, as it would guide them in the smooth running of the centre.
According to him, the centre which has been in existence since the past 70 years has provided leadership training to Nigerians from all walks of life.
“The centre is the only non-formal educational institution in Nigeria that executes experiential and outward bound education.
“It provides training, utilising natural, physical and man-made environment in an atmosphere in which self-discovery and self-actualisation are based on competence and ability,” he said.
The minister said the centre was strategically positioned to provide training and promote quality leadership and citizenship traits in the youth, with focus on patriotism, nationalism and ethical orientation.
He, therefore, called on the board members to bring their wealth of experience and exposure to bear in the running of the centre.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, commended President Buhari for approving the timely reconstitution of the board.
Abubakar assured that the ministry would continue to provide an enabling environment to enable the board discharge its mandate of repositioning the centre for the benefit of Nigerians
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated board, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Oniyangi, thanked President Buhari for the opportunity given them to serve the nation.
He assured that members of the board would bring in their wealth of experience to reposition the centre for maximum performance and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.
The new board has Bello Usman-Muhammed as Chairman, and AbdulGaniyu Oniyangi, Audu Sabo-Dantamas, Suleiman Dawudu, Anthony Otega-Osiwe and Hezekiah Oladipo-Adedeji, as members.
Other members are: DCP Rashid Afegbua, Brig.- Gen. E.L. Etuk,
Commodore Aliu Pindar, Hajiya Lami Adamu, Lami Bature, representating the ministry and Soji Eniade, Director General of the centre.

Rivers Commissioner Commends WAEC Conduct, Vows Sanctions for Malpractice
The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, has commended the orderly conduct of the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the state and urged schools to sustain the standard.
Dr. Nwagor gave the commendation on Tuesday during a monitoring tour of selected secondary schools in Port Harcourt and environs where the WAEC exam is ongoing.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by directors and monitors from the Ministry of Education, said he was impressed with the peaceful atmosphere at the centres visited.
“The students conducted themselves properly and wrote their papers under conducive conditions. Invigilators and supervisors also performed their duties professionally,” he stated.

Nwagor noted that the Rivers State Government had invested heavily to ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the examination across the state
He urged candidates to reciprocate government’s effort by shunning all forms of examination malpractice and focusing on their studies.
“Government has done so much to ensure successful examinations in our schools. Students should take advantage of it by remaining focused,” the commissioner said.
While no case of malpractice was recorded in the centres inspected, Dr. Nwagor warned that any principal, teacher, invigilator, or official caught aiding malpractice would face strict sanctions in line with regulations.
He also commended school administrators, teachers, WAEC officials, and security personnel for upholding the integrity of the process.
Centres visited included County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri; Government Secondary School, Borokiri; and Pabod Model Secondary School.
