Be Wary Of Sham Empowerment, Secure Your PVC, Fubara Tasks Bonny Electorate
Following the revelation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that a large quantity of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) were lying uncollected at the various offices across Rivers State, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has charged Bonny electorate not to relent until they have collected their PVCs.
Fubara gave the warning at the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI) PVC sensitisation rally in Bonny Island, headquarters of Bonny Local Government Area of the state, last Saturday.
The guber candidate added that under no guise should they give out the details on their cards to people, even if they present empowerment forms to hoodwink them.
He restated that that any empowerment programme contrived now by politicians was only but a sham, designed to buy their conscience.
Fubara further commended Bonny people for their display of brotherly bond between Opobo and Bonny kingdoms, and indeed, the Ibani nation.
He admonished the people to endeavour to pick up all their PVCs still in the custody of INEC, and ensuring that the PVCs were protected diligently, awaiting the D-Day.
Addressing the people, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, also noted that 2023 was a PVC election, emphasising that votes must count.
Also speaking, the President General of the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI), Chief Bright Amaewhule, charged the people to maintain vigilance to ensure they were not short-changed during the PVC collection process.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Bonny Local Government Council Chairman, Dame Anengi Barasua, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation for the forthcoming electioneering campaign season, and urged those who were yet to pick up their PVCs to do so without further hesitation.
Among those in Fubara’s entourage at the event were, the state PDP Deputy Chairman, Mr Aaron Chukwuemeka; and other executive members, the Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie; the Majority Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Martin Amaewhule; former Commissioner, State Civil Service Commission, Mrs Sotonye Toby Fulton; Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Engr. Samuel Nwanosike; and Chairman of Andoni LGA, Barrister Erastus Awortu, other council chairmen, prominent government officials and chieftains of the party.
