AFN Restates Commitment To Enhance Athletes Performance
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN has said it will continue to provide the needed platforms for Nigerian athletes to attain the heights in their careers.
The President of the body, Chief Tonobok Okowa gave the assurance while speaking with Newsmen in Asaba on Monday.
Chief Okowa said the AFN was committed to taking Nigerian athletes to the heights in international meets, stressing that Nigeria was blessed with abundant talents but needed a platform to excel.
He said the aspirations of the AFN was to see Nigerian athletes ruling world athletics stressing that the recent performances of Nigerian athletes at various international meets was a clear indication that the country’s athletes could become world beaters if given the necessary encouragement.
The AFN President further said Team Nigeria Contingent to the World Athletics Championship in Eugene Oregon in the United States would do the nation proud asserting that the athletes were in high spirits.
However, he enjoined them to give their best as they would be facing other top athletes from across the globe who was also seeking to rule world athletics.
“ We call on private sector to partner with the AFN towards putting Nigerian athletics on a higher pedestal stressing that in other climes the private sector was a key player in the development of sports”, Chief Okowa said.
He reiterated that the AFN was committed to redirecting athletics in Nigeria towards discovering, grooming, priming and exposing them to the international community as well as building future champions
