Edo Govt Backs Gender Equality Propagation Group
Edo State Government has expressed support for Movement for the Propagation of Gender Equality in the State.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues (MSDGI), Mrs Barbara Osobajo, expressed the support while receiving the Edo Focal Person of UN Women’s HeForShe Initiative, who was on a courtesy visit to her.
According to Osobajo, right from when female children are born, they already know themselves and their rights in the society, adding that there is nothing they cannot achieve.
“With the support of the male gender, women can achieve their potentials in every aspect of life,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary noted that if the struggle for gender equality was properly carried out, the result would outlive the present generation.
“I see a possibility where the younger generation will know that inclusivity is the name of the game.
“The most important thing is that it is good to know that we have this support for women in the State.
“We are delighted to see you supporting Edo movement for gender equality in all areas, including politics, economy, social development and others,” she said.
Osobajo further said that there could never be too many people pursuing the same thing, adding that the most important thing was to have result.
She expressed appreciation to the group for carrying the torch for gender equality in the State.
Earlier, the focal person, Mr Ehis Agugu, said he and his team were in the Ministry to fashion out ways and areas of collaboration, to achieve the group’s mandate.
He commended the present administration in the State for its relentless efforts at ensuring that the state remained uninhabitable for rapists and other perpetrators of criminal activities.
Agugu added that the HeForShe Champions in the State had resolved to act as volunteers to pursue justice for victims and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).
