NGO Moves To Drive Dev Through Agriculture In Ogoni
A non-governmental organisation, under the auspices of International Confederation of Agriculture and Food (ICAF) said it was ready to empower Ogoni people on agriculture for economic growth in the state.
The President of ICAF, Mr YukselHakan, disclosed this during the launch of International Trade and Industrial Centre by the Ogoni Liberation Initiative in Port Harcourt.
The International Cooperation of Agriculture and Food is a non-governmental organisation focusing on economic integration and cooperation in the field of agriculture, food and sub-industries.
Hakan stated that ICAF, in collaboration with the Ogoni Liberation Initiative, would train 80per cent of Ogoni youth in agriculture, mechanisation, technology and engineering in the centre.
He stated that the training would give employment and economic growth in Ogoni land, saying that Ogoni has a rich fertile land, which cannot give financial freedom, if agricultural products were not produced.
ICAF president urged Ogoni people to embrace the initiative of Ogoni Liberation Initiative on agriculture to improve their economy.
Earlier in his speech, the President of Ogoni Liberation Initiative, Dr. Douglas Fabeke, said that the group collaboration with ICAF was to empower Ogoni youth on agriculture and other international trade programmes.
According to Fabeke, “ICAF will partner with us to enhance economic development in Ogoniland, and we, the Ogoni people, have the capacity to work with the centre on agriculture trade.
Fabeke, who also took the group to the site of the International Trade and Industrial Centre in Ogoni, appealed to government to create enabling environment for the immediate implementation of the initiative in Ogoniland.
He appealed to Federal Government to draw a clear master plan of environmental restoration and management of Ogoniland, considering that all host communities were plagued with environmental degradation and pollution.
