IGP Sacks Nine Police Personnel For Planning Strike
The Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman has relieved nine police personnel of their duties for planning an industrial action against the rank and file of the Nigerian Police Force.
The nine officers are two Inspectors, five sergeants, and two constables.
A message via police signal to various commands and formations across the country, said, “Following the conclusion of the orderly room proceedings of the under-mentioned inspectors, rank and file for the offences of discreditable conduct, improper conduct, breach of confidence to wit: planning, organising, coordinating industrial strike within the rank and file of the Nigerian Police Force.
“The affected officers are AP/No 245800 Nanol Lamak, NP/No287568, F/No 271367 Sgt Onoja Onuche, Sgt Franklin Agughalau F/No 442680, Sgt Emmanuel Isah F/No 495378, Sgt Adesina Ismail F/No 508168, Sgt Oseteku Ademola F/508282, police constables Ehighamhen Favour F/No 525839, Ebele and F/No 528222, Police Constable Ubong Inem.
“Commissioners of Police Commands and formations concerned are to warn them accordingly, to delist them and eject them from the police accommodation and facilities where applicable and revert accordingly, delete subjects from the IPPIS payroll immediately”, the message said.
The planned strike was intended to draw the attention of the authorities to the plight of policemen on poor condition of service.
One of them, Issy as popularly called, said it was important for them to seek the attention of the Nigerian president and lawmakers to know their grievances.
“This strike is necessary for the police particularly those of us at the middle and lower levels. Look at my level in the police but I earn low. My salary is not up to N100,000. My counterparts in FRSC and NSCDC earn more than us, our lives are constantly exposed to danger. It is difficult to pay rents. It is difficult to feed our families. It is difficult to train our children”.
The other named Baba said, “We cannot continue like this. Our barracks are filthy with rats, cockroaches and reptiles littering the areas 24/7.
“If they don’t want us to serve they should tell us so but to reduce us to this level where we cannot do much for our families is unacceptable.
“Why can’t they place the police on a special salary scale? I think the government doesn’t want the police to live like human beings”, he said.
