World Cup Draw: Nigeria To Renew Rivalry With Eternal Rivals
Nigeria was at the weekend handed Ghana in the Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off draw held in Cameroon.
The draws ceremony, which was held in Douala, was anchored by the Confederation of African Football’s Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu, who was assisted by Senegal football great El Hadji Diouf and former Togo Captain, Emmanuel Adebayor.
During the ceremony, the 10 group winners from the second round were drawn into five home-and-away ties.
The Super Eagles will renew rivalry with eternal rivals, Black Stars, who they last faced 11 years ago in an international friendly game at Vicarage Road in England. The game ended goalless.
Tidesports source reports that Ghana will have home advantage first and both legs will be played between March 21 and 29, with the aggregate winners securing a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Coincidentally, both sides were also pitted together in Group B of the final round that also had Liberia, Sudan and Sierra Leone for the qualifiers for the 2002 edition co-hosted by South Korea and Japan. Since 1994, Nigeria have missed only one of seven editions of the Mundial. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.
