Ikanya Hails Wike’s Move To End ‘Kpo-Fire’ In Rivers
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chief Davies Ikanya has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for taking practical steps to end the soot menace in the state.
Ikanya, who said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, described the governor’s action as an answer to the prayers of Rivers people.
He said many people across the state have been praying and yearning to see an end to the soot, stressing that Wike has demonstrated unique leadership quality that should be emulated by other governors in the Niger Delta to end illegal oil bunkering in the region.
According to him, the step by the governor deserves support of all segments of the society, including the churches, youth organisations, the traditional institution and others.
Ikanya said there was no justifiable reason for people to engage in illegal oil bunkering, arguing that illegalities have no justification anywhere in the world.
The PDP chieftain also blamed the situation on the absence of a functional refinery in the country, and called on the Federal Government to provide employment opportunities to the teeming unemployed youths in Niger Delta.
He also decried the deep-seated corruption in Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that this sorry situation has underscored the need to unbundle the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as NNPC Limited.
“I want to call on the cabal forcing the youths to engage in illegal oil bunkering to desist. They should join Wike to fight the battle.
“It is save our soul battle”.
While stressing that a lot of investments are leaving the state because of the soot, he called on owners of filling stations to stop buying ‘Kpo-Fire’ petrol as ‘Kpo-fire’ money was blood money.
Ikanya called on youths to take to legitimate business to survive as a lot of lives were being wasted by illegal refinery activities.
