RSU Medical College, Dream Come True, Wike Affirms
The Rivers State Government has said that the approval of a Medical College for the Rivers State University (RSU) was dreamcome true for the government and people of the state.
The state Chief Executive, Chief Nyesom Wike stated this while declaring open the 9th Plenary Session of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the governor said the last time the council visited,it made some observations of things that need to be done at RSU, adding that under his watch,the state government released all the required funds to remedy the deficiencies and was able fulfil all requirements for accreditation.
The state chief executive, while asserting that the state has been able to contribute its quota to the growth of medical education in Nigeria, expressed gratitude to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for the approval of 100 students per session for the university.
Wike said “In line with our partnership with PAMO University, the state government sponsors over a 100 students in Medicine and allied professions annually”.
According to the governor, even though the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria was inaugurated three years behind schedule, the council has been able to deliver on its mandate, and congratulated them for the successes they have recorded so far.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Prof. Abba Hassan, said the council was in Port Harcourt for the 9th Session of the council, which started, last Monday, adding that the plenary session would afford members the opportunity to brainstorm on how to move the council forward.
