FIDA Decries Debasement Of Woman
International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), in the State has frowned at the debasement and indignity meted out on Madam Ann Sobrekon.
Madam Soberekon, who was beaten, stripped naked, videos made and circulated through social media was alleged to be a witch.
A statement signed by the chairperson and secretary of FIDA in the state, Adata Bio-Briggs and Ini Irene Pepple, said the association would fight for fundamental human rights as contained in Chapter IV of the 1999 Constitution, particularly Section 34 provides for the right to personal dignity
FIDA’s chairperson hinted that Madam Ann Soberekon and her family had been severely traumatised due to this emotional and psychological abuse.
She stated that the victim’s family had confirmed that she had issues of dementia which is a medical condition.
She called on law enforcement officers to investigate, fish out and prosecute the perpetrators of the act, who were particularly featured in the video circulated on the internet.
