Marine Police List Security, Peace As Top Agenda
The Eastern Ports Police Command has said that the enthronement of maximum security and peaceful business environments in ports under would top its agenda
The Commissioner of Police, Eastern Ports, Tami Evelyn Peterside, disclosed this during a courtesy visit on her by the Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) in Port Harcourt recently.
Peterside, noted that it was in line with the core mandate given to the command by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
According to her, both the Media and Police work towards achieving the same goal of building a stronger society.
Deployed to the command as CP in 2020, Peterside’s gallantries paid off recently with the arrest of port vandals who allegedly destroyed the beams anchoring Berth 8 at the Port Harcourt Ports and were extending the vandalism to Berth 7 but were intercepted by the police.
The The Tide gathered that the Commandunder her watch, has checkmated the activities of unmarked taxis that were brought into the port at night by criminal with the intention to cart away goods.
According to her, the incidents of beam vandalism are peculiar with Onne, Calabar and Warri and other ports under the command.
It also reported that her collaboration with sister agencies reportedly kept the four ports safe during the “EndSars” protests and added that several gunboats have acquired to check the menace of sea piracy.
“To ensure a peaceful work environment, the command now meets quarterly with host communities as a way of forestalling youth protest and the barricading of port facilities. It was so much at the beginning of the year”, she said.
She also advised the host communities to always device an amicable means of conflict resolution in order to achieve their target.
“Anything you need as a community or what, through your EXCO, writes a letter to that company, copy me. We have had the meeting twice this year, remaining that of December”, she said.
She further pointed out that since the adoption of the system, that business in Onne has been hitch free.
